Our history

Since being founded over 20 years ago by best-selling author and knitwear designer Zoe Mellor, we've been leading the way in colourful, ethical and organic children's clothing.

Back in 1998, Zoe recognised there was a gap in the market for making children's clothing fun, practical and kind to the environment. Growing up in the Caribbean, Zoe was surrounded by vibrant colours and knew that organic didn't have to mean beige and boring. So began the search for the best organic cotton suppliers and eco-friendly dyes. A few months after the birth of Zoe's son Toby, Toby Tiger launched with a collection of colourful and original slogan t-shirts.

Since that first slogan tee, a full range of Toby Tiger clothing has been available from our Brighton flagship store and here online (where you'll also find a curated selection of beautiful, long-lasting toys), as well as stockists all over the world, from independent boutiques to London's Tate Gallery.

Our organic clothes are instantly recognisable: whether it's our signature stripes or the soft, fun character appliqués that tell a story for little ones' curious imaginations. They're guaranteed to make children and adults smile everywhere. From baby bodies, bibs and knot hats to pyjamas, dungarees and party dresses – every design considers practicality and comfort.
